When Linsey Godfrey started feeling tired and cold last fall, she had a choice: take a pregnancy test or call her oncologist.
“I would get up and eat breakfast, and that’s all I could do for the day,” recalls Linsey, 25, who plays Caroline Spencer on the soap opera, “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
Her mother wanted her to call her doctor. After all, she’d seen Linsey through treatments for Hodgkin’s lymphoma Stage 3A when the actress was 18. It was Linsey’s mom who fielded the call from the doctor confirming the diagnosis while on her cell phone in the family’s front yard. Linsey watched her mom, who was pacing in front of the house, from the window.
“I thought something was wrong with one of my sisters,” remembers Linsey, who would soon find out that she was the one who had something wrong — very wrong. No longer could she explain away her symptoms, fatigue, chills, and lumps on her neck and collarbone, as job-related stress.
“I was home for the summer, working as a ranch hand, and I started to faint a lot,” says Linsey, whose doctors had been blaming the hot Tallahassee summer for her symptoms. “They kind of talked it up to exhaustion.”
But a biopsy found irregular cells, and then a CT scan revealed tumors from her neck to her spleen.
“My mom said I had lymphoma,” recalls Linsey. “She couldn’t call it ‘cancer’ for the first few months.”
Throughout the remainder of 2006, Linsey would undergo 12 rounds of chemo, including a turbo blast of the heavy duty Adriamycin and Bleomycin, which led to an infection in her lungs similar to tuberculosis. Though it wasn’t contagious, it was dangerous enough for Linsey to be quarantined.
In January of 2007, Linsey achieved remission. But the combination of the chemotherapy and her family’s history of early menopause meant that her window for getting pregnant was small.
“I don’t have the luxury of waiting until my thirties,” says Linsey, who, it turns out, won’t have to. After her mother advised her to call her oncologist that day last fall, her fiancé, “The Young and the Restless” star Robert Adamson, said, “Let’s get a pregnancy test” instead.
“He knew I was pregnant,” she says. Linsey, on the other hand, wasn’t convinced. When the first of the two lines on the over-the-counter pregnancy test showed — the line that only appear when you’re pregnant — Linsey thought that the display had been installed backwards. When the second line appeared confirming her pregnancy, she handed the test to her fiancé and said, “I don’t know!”
“Oh sweetie,” he replied, “you’re pregnant.” Unconvinced, Linsey took four more tests — all of them with positive results.
“I just thought it would be harder than that,” says Linsey, now in her third trimester. What was hard was filming her wedding scene for “The Bold and the Beautiful” in double corsets, trying to play the glowing bride while “so tired, the last thing I wanted to do was pretend.” So far, the show hasn’t written her pregnancy into the script.
Linsey credits cancer for a deepened bond with her family, especially her mother.
“When you watch somebody almost lose a battle like that,” she recalls, trailing off. She says she’s grateful for cancer and everything it’s given her, especially for her new perspective on life. She considers getting older a gift, as is having a baby with the man she loves.
“Not everybody gets this chance,” she acknowledges. “I was never sure if I’d be able to. I’m excited to be alive. I think that’s going to carry over into being a mom.”
The baby is due June 19th.
CONGRATS TO YOU! YOUR VERY BRAVE.
Congratulation and I wish you and your hubby all the best in the future.
LINSEY AND ROBERT;
Shouldn’t you get married first and then have a baby later? Just sayin
Seriously???? Who are you to judge, shouldnt you be congratulating her on her couragious battle and victorious attempt at starting a family?? Forget the marriage part and refrain from cunty comments such as these in the future……idiot
What a selfish comment. Shouldn’t U read the article 1st b4 leaving a stupid comment?? Just sayin. All the best to the cutest couple on tv today, you will make ä beautiful family. God Bless you three.
So you think they should get in a time machine and go get married? Or kill the baby and get married, then hope for a lucky second?
NOPE.
When a baby is on the way – especially for a woman who is looking at the possibility of not ever having babies (which as I can first-hand tell you is miserable) – we just are happy. Yes, it is usually best to get married first. I am a Christian and that would be my choice, had i been given one. But this baby is here now and you playing the Morality Police just looks so completely hateful. As I wrote, i can’t have children but i am thrilled for every new life that comes into this world, and have SO much respect for people who are raising children in a tough time, when people can hide behind a computer screen and say whatever nasty, un-kind thing pops into their head.
Congrats again, you guys, what a lovely miracle :0)
You are an ignorant idiot…. Just sayin;)
What a rude thing to say! A baby is a blessing and I wish only the best life has to offer for Beautiful Linsey and her fiancée
Oh please!!! Get off your stupid draconian pedestal & be happy for this incredible woman who has fought the battle of her life… and won! It’s people like you who scare the crap out of me and who have held this country back. Get into the 21 st century and stop being so damn judgementa!!!!

jus a fan orf the bold and beautiful. happy for a great actress.
love the show
good job on your role on Bold and Beautiful. Congrats on your health and baby. As for the show no one is likeing Rick, writers have gone way over board on torching you and ms thing ruining your life together no one wants him with the greedy user. As for lam him and hope should have been married years ago and the writers keep playing the same bs roles over and over No wonder she left the show..that shouldn’t have ever happened . viewers wanted them together, and made the drama on Ivy likeing him but married Hope. I guess bringing Stephanie back is going to be the same ole roles they did causing trouble with Hope and lam now its Stephanie and Ivy Really its old using the same ole issues the show needs more life and less repeated drama..
Cutest couple every,,,happy for ya.

I have been watching Y&R, & B&B since, they both started. Y&R right after my daughter was born 11/72. B&B not long after. They are both still recorded every day without fail. I LOVE them both so much. I am so extremely excited for Lindsey and Robert. Also, my prayers for her after this horrific accident. Hope you are doing better and will continue to in the future. Whether they are married or not is not anyone’s business & judgement should only be made by GOD not us. I pray that you and Robert do very well. God bless you and keep you safe until that sweet baby is born.
Hope Her recent accident doesn’t affect the baby.
best of lucky to both of you enjoy your life and baby life goes by fast enjoy love both of you sorry about your accident
I wish you both lots of love, health and happiness in your future with your new baby on the way. I am a wife who has experienced Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma with my husband. Age 37 he was diagnosed with treatments, and has been free for 10 1/2 years. It has reoccurred this past Sept. 2014 with more treatments this year and still has a positive attitude and going strong. Keep your faith and I wish you both the best in everything you all do and always put your life in perspective and live life to the fullest each day. My only child (my son) has been the best gift that god has given us. We cherish each day to the fullest and my son is now 17. God Bless and best wishes to you both. I love watching Young and the Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful!!
Hi Linsey,
I watch the B & the B in Perth, Western Australia. First, I trust all goes well for you, baby and baby’s dad! Congrat’s!
I am happy to have found this website because I have been watching your progress in the B & the B and view you as the best actor on it. You move through emotion very well – acting even with your body stance – with the skill of a much more ‘seasoned’ actor. All cast members are terrific in their role, but I believe you are the tops. Second to you comes Pammy, who truly is ‘seasoned’. She carries off that quite difficult role so well! I wonder when she will become an empowered woman. Surely soon, as I feel a ‘changing of the guard’ coming on.
On top of my admiration for your acting and how your role is evolving, I sense you are a young woman of integrity and strength, and I was sad to find out about your early struggle with your health.
I wish you a happy, healthy future, and I trust you will be on the screen in B & the B for many years, like the legendary Brooke. However, you have the skills to be extremely diversified in acting…
Kindest regards to you and your family,
Colleen (from down under)
PS: I love Thorsten as Ridge, but he has to ‘loosen up’. Do a Picasso of Fashion turn, or something. I keep looking to him to ‘surprise’ his dedicated audience. Get fierce, Ridge! Take the reins! And writers, for God sake don’t let Ivy go off the screen; everyone down under wants to see her continue on the show, so please ‘grow’ her role. – CC
Such a beautiful couple! Congrats!!!! Blessings to you both… As for checking and double checking the positive pregnancy test, I did the same thing. I took 8 after I was told I’d never have children and then became pregnant. So happy you beat your struggle and had your baby.
My beautiful 18 year old grandaughter got pregnant in her first year of college by her high school sweetheart. We were not so pleased the first couple of hours and then decided God made no mistakes. This is the most beautiful, sweetest and well adjusted almost 1 year old that I have ever seen. The mother and Daddy are together, love each other and worship this little angel, and plan to be married. Life gives you some bumps in the road and you accept it and go on. Wouldn’t change a thing if we could. Be glad for Lindsey that she was able to give birth after all she went through. When judgement day comes God will be the judge for all of us, all of you ladies included. I wish this little family all the wonderful things in the world.
Omg, you have had your struggles, now with the car accident. You are soo lucky to have a child….we were not. Good health to you!
I wish you all the best. Stay healthy and enjoy being a mom.
Hi Linsey,
I enjoy you on the B&B and Robert on Y&R. I’m amazed at how you have handled all the drama you have had in your life at an early age. I was so saddened to hear about the car accident. I had a fractured fibula and Femur on my on leg a few yrs. ago and that was tough enough. I can’t imagine how I would have coped if it were 2 legs like in your case. It seems so unfair that after the Cancer ordeal you would get hit by a car. I hope for the rest of your life you have good health and happiness. I am also upset that you and Robert have called it quits and hope you are coping well with this separation.
Please, no more drama. Hope all the bad is behind you.
